Mission: Beastliest 2012 Ever.

And quite frankly, folks, with the way this year has already kicked off, I'd say Caitlin and I are headed down the right path. Let's give a quick recap, shall we?

I have to suffer weekend workouts alone during the winter because Caitlin is off being RIDICULOUSLY GOOD at snowboarding.

(No, seriously. That's Numero Uno right there. Champion.)

Caitlin is SO good, she was invited to ride in Nationals this year. Out of 38 girls in her age group, she was ranked 19th. IN THE NATION. Beast.

While she was off on the mountainside, I made my way to the west coast a few times to see my wonderful best friend, Tina. Her and I met in Japan in 2005 and we've been likethis ever since.

When we all left Japan, I moved to Albuquerque, while Tina and her husband, Fernando, moved to Puerto Rico.

(Yes, they are a ridiculously good-looking Hispanic couple. I've heard people say the Brangelina of Puerto Rico! Whether in bathing suits, clothed, or dressed to the nines, they truly are the most beautiful couple, inside and out.)

Three years later and they finally made their way back to the states. Beautiful Southern California. I was so lucky to spend Christmas with some of my favorite people in the world.

POP QUIZ!

I'm going to throw a little math equation at you guys. Check this out:

Elizabeth + Caitlin = Beast Adventures
Elizabeth + Tina = Outrageous Laughing and Wine Drinking

Elizabeth + Caitlin + Tina = ???

OUTRAGEOUS LAUGHING AND WINE DRINKING BEAST ADVENTURES

What sounds more fun than that???

Japan, meet New Mexico. New Mexico, meet Japan. California, watch out.

Caitlin and I had a road trip adventure to San Diego last month. Fernando and one of his Marine friends participated in a Tough Mudder and I had to be there to check it out. ( Basic idea of a Tough Mudder? It's a 12-mile obstacle course with up to 27 obstacles, including log carry, ice bath swimming, walking over coals, getting electrocuted...fun, right? :)) Tina and I volunteered (with another set of dear friends from Okinawa) and were able to watch her husband and his friend finish in 2.5 hours. It was amazing! We've tossed around the idea of training for the Tough Mudder in Tampa, Florida ourselves. It isn't until December and it would be fuuuuun!

It was a suuuuper cold California morning when the volunteers got there at 5 am, but the scenery was nice (God bless the Marine Corps), the volunteers were all fun, and it warmed up within a few hours. We volunteered to be Face Markers. Literally that: writing bib numbers on the person's face. I was fortunate enough to get to write on some legs and backs and chests, too. For safety's sake.

We had a few warm days in San Diego before we headed back to Albuquerque. I think we may have brought the warm weather with us.

I went on a little adventure sans Caitlin to surprise my mother and my niece, Hannah. My aunt and her daughter live in Tucson, AZ and they had my mom and Han out from New Hampshire. Tucson is only about six hours from Albuquerque so I hopped in my SVT and knocked on their door. It was an awesome surprise!

To wrap this post up, I leave you with this:

This time of year is nostalgic for Caitlin and I. It's the year anniversary to a few of our most epic adventures, including the adventure of body building. This time, last year, Caitlin and I started thinking about competing in a body building competition. We started living at the gym. We weren't satisfied until our callouses were peeling and our muscles were having involuntary spasms. Well, hibernation is over, people! It's time to bust out the short-shorts and tank tops and bikinis! With about 8 weeks till prime skin-showing season, The Adventures of Quadlin and Elizabeast are back in action. We're going to have circuit training, speed tips, diet plans (not diet as in fad, diet as in lifestyle change), new exercises, old exercises, and, of course, adventures.

Stay tuned. You don't want to miss what comes next!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chest

Happy Friday, mates! Caitlin and I had a busy night tonight at WORK, but before that, we had an exciting day at el gym.

I don't know if you guys know much about figure competitions, BUT HERE IS A LITTLE BLURB of what it's all about. (Thanks, Wikipedia. You never let us down.)

Here's what the figure competitors look like...

Caitlin and I really focus a lot on shoulders, biceps, and triceps...along with serious leg days. Chest has never really been included, and even after to talking to one of our favorite trainers from Defined Fitness (best gym in Albuquerque!), chest is really only incorporated to define front shoulder and add a little shape on top. "You don't want man cleavage, so don't do anything flat." Hear that, ladies?? If you're including chest days with your training, keep it at an incline!

This is what we did today for chest:

Incline Flyes, 3-5 sets, 8-12 reps

Arnold Presses, 3-5 sets, 10-12 reps

WAIT.
Let's pause and take a second to appreciate Arnold.

Ok. Back to blogging awesomeness.

These are my new favorite. Make sure your elbows don't go passed your ta tas and when you extend up, don't lock your arms. It puts unnecessary strain on your joints. :)

We had started doing chest presses on the bench after these. That's when we found out about gnarly man cleavage and opted out.

We moved on to Incline Pull-ups. It's safest to do these on a Smith Machine or something where the bar can lock in.

Incline Pull-ups, 3-5 sets, 10-15 reps

These bring me back to my boot camp days (Oohrah, 4020!). So does my awesome Marine Corps shirt.

As far as Caitlin's attire, I'm sure you're more curious about the feathers you can see tattooed under her shorts. You're welcome.

Now folks. In closing, I would like to let you all know that Caitlin and I are NOT certified in any way, nor do we claim that everything we are doing is perfect or by-the-book. It is done to the best of our ability, with the best form possible, and we're always there to spot each other and make sure we're safe. If you try some of our workouts, we are sooooo not responsible if you get injured. If you end up super-ripped and shredded, you can, however, give props. Just kidding. Sort of...

Best advice I can give you when it comes to working out:

NEVER SACRIFICE WEIGHT FOR FORM.
It doesn't matter how heavy you lift, if you're doing it wrong, you could hurt yourself. It's better to do it correctly and a little lighter than over-beasting and ending up injured.

Keep it beast...

How Lucy Rolls...

Hola, folks.

It's been a crappy week here in Albuquerque. I've had the stomach flu for the last few days (awful!!!) and Caitlin has had some fast-acting Neuro work to do. We haven't had the chance to really hit the gym ferociously or go on any adventures. But we will. Don't you worry.

In the mean time, I'm going to leave you with one of Lucy's first experiences outside. Yeah, she has 23 claws.

Stay classy.

Arm Day!

Ello, ladies and gents! It's a quarter till five on this fabulous Thursday afternoon and it is HOT, HOT, HOT!!! Work was busy today and now I'm just hanging inside with my Lucy until it's time to hit el gym.

Speaking of the gym, Caitlin and I beasted out some arms the other day. The way that I prefer to do arms is by alternating biceps and triceps. So if we start with bicep curls, we'll do tricep dips next. Then a bi, then a tri. Since we're really trying to bulk up, we're going heavy enough to only do eight to ten...with the help of a spotter. RULE: If you can do 12, you're going too light.

Here's me doing some jackhammers. 110 lbs. Because I can.

And Caitlin, showing everyone how to do tricep dips...

For some bicep lovin', here's a front shot of moi...

(schmeeeeeee!)

And Miss Caitlin...

No blog post would be complete without a friend-double-bicep pose, so enjoy.

We haven't really recorded any of our workouts so I'm not going to post what we did. Because I don't know. But I will leave you with an adventure video.

Quadlin & Elizabeast drive through a friends parking lot, leery of the Speed Controller-ator!

Till next time.......

Beast Crew Represent!

Hello world!
My name is Elizabeth, also known as Elizabeast, and I'm going to get this blog rolling while my friend, Caitlin (or Quadlin, because her quads are BEAST), has her own adventure in Colorado.

I'm not going to go into too much detail without my partner in crime. Let me just give you a little preview of what's to come and why we feel we're rad enough to have a blog:

Caitlin is a bad ass, sponsored snowboarder hailing from New Mexico...

She's so awesome, she's now the Neuro rep...

(She was also born into a Yankees family, but no one is perfect.)

As for me, I'm a former Marine (OOHRAH!) from New Hampshire...

An avid music freak...

And I'm a trained killer.

Caitlin and I work together at THE BEST New Mexican restaurant in all the land: La Salita. I started lifting weights and decided to compete in a figure competition. I didn't have to twist her beastly arm too hard to get her on board, too.

And yeah, we flex even when we're fancy.

We both have beastly boyfriends who not only support us, they join in on the fun.

This blog is going to rock. We're going to post workouts, training results, recipes for beastly consumption, along with stories from our adventures.

We go camping:

Find rock houses:

Explore uncharted territory:

And we sometimes play with fire:

Stay tuned, folks. You won't want to miss out on the next crazy adventure.

HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!!
